Exploring the property of predicate is considered as a crucial yet fundamental study as the verb-wise semantic features result in difficult challenges facing in teaching. The verbs in Chinese and Indo-European languages have different functions. The verbs and adjectives in Indo-European languages perform distinctly where the adjectives are not classified as a sub-category of the verbs nor under the same category. For example, the adjectives in English language server as affix or supplementary to the nouns while in Chinese language both the verbs and adjectives can be seen as predicate or used with adverbialsto make questions. Based on the linguistic typology, the thesis is to re-categorize the adjectives into general verbs under the theory of collocations of the verbs and adjectives to discuss once the property and syntactic features of the verbs in Chinese language. Regardless of the distinct morphological form of Chinese and Korean language, both are quite similar in terms of linguistic topology, especially the categorization of the verbs and adjectives in Korean language, creating the similar issues as those by Chinese language. The adjectives in Korean language can be seen directly as predicate, having the same flexibility and variation with suffix as the verbs do and no specific markers to distinguish the verbs and adjectivesfrom their appearance. As a result, the thesis is based on Teng’s (1974) study of transitivity relations in Chinese language, where the verbs are classified as Action, State and Process. In view of Teng’s verb classification, the so-called adjectives will be categorized as State verbs. The contrastive study of the verbs in Chinese and Korean languages aims to create a more effective and comprehensive pedagogical method in hopes to facilitate Korean students in the study of Chinese verbs.
