ABSTRACT
“Han Fan” is one of the antique decorations in Taiwan’s temples. It is always thought as a silly barbarian which is sculptured in the corner to bear the temple’s roof. In Tainan, we can see this more often than any other places in Taiwan.
First, this research tries to find out whether there are rules to set “Han Fan” in the temple.
Second, it makes a study of the relationship between “Han Fan” and “Jiao Shen”, which means “Corner God” and was set at the same place as “Han Fan” in temples in Song Dynasty.
At last, it figures out the features of “Han Fan”, as well as the evolution of materials that “Han Fan” has been made of since ancient times.
