The psychosocial distress may also impact their sleep and fatigue. The purpose of the study was to determine the predicting relationship of psychosocial distress on sleep and fatigue among woman waiting for diagnoses for their breast abnormality. This was a correlation study. A consecutive sample of 120 women from the breast clinics in a medical center in the north of Taiwan participated in this study. They were at least 20 years old, with breast abnormalities or positive in breast cancer screening, no history of breast cancer. The sample consisted of women with averaged age of 39.2 (±9.88). The majority of them had education of college or higher, was unmarried, worked currently, found breast abnormality from screening or health check, and had fine needle biopsy for the first time. The women reported a moderate psychosocial distress before the clinic consultation for diagnosis as a mean of 3.78 (± 2.65) on Distress Thermometer and of 4.73 (± 3.59) on Brief Symptom Rating Scale. But, 5% of them reported mild to moderate suicidal thought. The women also reported poor sleep quality with the total score of 6.76 (± 3.29) on Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and 88.3% had sleep disturbance. Brief Fatigue Inventory showed a mean of 4.89 (± 2.20); 66.4% had moderate-to-severe fatigue and 17.5% interfered their life severely. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that psychosocial distress (β = 0.27) plus yearly income (β= -0.24), sedative/hypnotic drug use (β = 0.17), fatigue (β = 0.23) explained 33.9% of sleep quality. With working hours (β = 0.17), family distress (β = 0.18), sleep quality (β = 0.22), psychosocial distress (β = 0.25) explained 27.8% of fatigue. The psychosocial distress in the diagnostic phase significantly predicted the quality of sleep and fatigue. Specific care should be developed to help these patients going through the stressful diagnostic period. Shiu-Yu Katie C. Lee 邱秀渝 2015 學位論文 ; thesis 163 zh-TW
