The effluent containing TMAH in this kind of wastewater was found not easy to treat for containing high organic carbon and high nitrogen. This study is focused to investigate removal of TMAH and effect on different operation conditions by up-flowed UASB and MBR. The varied operation conditions were including concentrations of TMAH(10、20、50、100、200、500 mg/L)、pH(6、8、10)、reaction temperatures(25、30、35、40˚C) and empty bed residence time (EBCT) of UASB (0.5、1、2、3.2、4hr).Results showed the removal of TMAH was over 85 % , and the removal of rest items (TOC, NH3-N, and COD) were 93%、52%、and 64% respectively. When temperature was raised to 30、35and 40˚C, the removals of TMAH were achieved to 100 % in effluent of UASB combined MBR.The removal of TMAH increased with increasing EBCT. When the EBCT was fixed at 2 hours, the removal of TMAH by UASB combined MBR was near 100 % and the removals of rest items (TOC, NH3-N, COD, BOD, and SS) were showed increased as well. The EBCT for treating TMAH containing wastewater by this system of UASB combined MBR is lower than many researchers’ work by UASB.
