Generally, the extensive green roof is the most acceptable type for its light weight, easy construction, and low maintenance requirements. Because the extensive green roof substrate can store limited water resources, succulents are commonly used on it. However, it is not appropriate to plant only succulent species on the extensive green roofs in Taiwan, a sub-tropical monsoon climate country, and general plants may also need more maintenance to keep the plants in a good state. This study conducted an experiment, which combines the S. lineare with other target plants, to discuss whether the plant’s growth state can be ameliorated by the combination instead of increasing the maintenance. In the plant combination experiment, the result shows that most species grew smaller in combination than in non-combination, but the visual valuations were similar in both conditions. Besides, N. auriculata, P. cablin, and B. chinensis had a negative influence on the S. lineare. In the thermal effect experiment, B. chinensis, N. auriculata, and R. spathaceo cv. ‘Compacta’ showed the best performance, while C. bivitattus, A. vera chinensis and the bare soil showed the worst.
