These catalysts were characterized using X-ray Diffraction Spectrum (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA). The results indicated that the addition of gold to Ni/SiO2 prevented nickel from the agglomerate after 24h reaction, and SEM showed that the formation of metal particles on the tips of the carbon nanofibers led to avoid carbon depositing on the metal particles surface. The results showed that modified gold-nickel bimetal catalysts by an alkali caused an increasing of the activity of CO2 and the selectivity of CO, while addition of acidic Zr would decrease catalytic activity. Addition of alkaline promoter, K, to NiAu/SiO2 induced electronic enrichment of the active phase promoted the activating of CO2 and inhibited the carbon formation on metal surface. On the other hand, the addition of an acidic additive, Zr, to NiAu/SiO2 catalysts was unfavorable for carbon dioxide reforming of methane. Both addition of gold or additives changed the energy activation accounted for a different reactivity of Ni particles towards reactants/ or reaction intermediates.
