Based on the research motives and objectives, this study targeted agricultural students at technological and vocational colleges in southern Taiwan to discuss the relationship among work experience, work values, and career intentions. Using a questionnaire survey and SPSS18.0 statistic software, data were collected and analyzed. The analyses included reliability, validity, description, independent sample t-test, ANOVA, chi-square, correlation, and regression.
The results showed students enrolled in agriculture majors usually had short-term internship experience and part-time work experience. But they relatively lacked of agriculture-relevant work experience. The personal interaction was their highest work value while the self-growth was their lowest one. The students’ career intentions regarding agriculture was not high, and relatively high intentions were found in the students with parents engaged in agriculture. The students’ work experience would affect work values, and agriculture-relevant work experience of the students would also affect their career intentions regarding agriculture. In addition, their work values had positive effect on agricultural career intentions. Finally, feasible suggestions were proposed according to the findings for educational institutions, employment counsellingorganizations, and agricultural policy makers.
