Planting has become an important decoration choice for our lives in a world being polluted severely. A delicate planting arrangement covering the variety is critical to the increasing of the living quality and comfort. A well-designed landscape construction planting not only provides colorful decoration but is functional in developing outdoor space, balancing sun light and wind, conserving soil and water, and stabilizing ground floor. Planting can meet people’s needs in visual satisfaction and can regulate micro climate to create a natural and cozy place to conduct leisure activities. It’s an indispensible design tool bounding up with our lives.
In urban landscape construction, landscape plant is a popular planting choice and gradually, it grows a close relationship with city dwellers. We can see the tie between trees and human in the action taken by the Tree Protection Associations. It also gives as a clue to understand the importance of trees in cities with high urban density in Taiwan
The lack of related profession and maintenance knowledge has troubled designers in the planting choice, management, and maintenance and as a result, forming the weak link in the overall landscape construction industry. The insufficient planting choice or the poor maintenance may do no good to the growing of the planting and cause difficulties toward long term management.
The study analyzed the related literature and current status of plant maintenance by synthesis theories, conducting field survey to have the big picture on planting maintenance and choice in Taiwan, discussing the current strategies on maintenance conduction, proposing a systematic scheme on management and maintenance. The study can serve as an useful reference for future studies.
