碩士 === 國立屏東大學 === 視覺藝術學系碩士班 === 103 === This paper aimed to study the value of tourism resources in Pingtung County based on a traveler’s views and artistic representations, and to help the author further understand sense of place throughout the act of creation. Born and raised in Donggang Township, Pingtung, the author, following his ardent love for southern lands, backpacked through 33 townships in Pingtung County to probe for the local customs in every corner. Artistic creation could be seen as both the practice of personal journeys and the delineation of memories. By traveling to another space, the creation takes on a distinctive tour experience, with moods, memories and perceptions rendered in painting. Methods of document analysis, visual art production and styles modeling were applied in the paper focusing on Postcards from the South of Taiwan. The goals of the study were (1) to examine the operation method and the doctrinal reasoning of the traveler’s views through in-depth research on text; (2) to analyze Chinese art workers’ artistic features and connotations in the visual form of postcards; (3) to develop a sense of place while recording the local customs and traditions in each township in Pingtung; (4) to dissect personal works of art created in the form of postcards from 2013 to 2014, and to find an inspirational meaning of traveling as it applies to living and life. On the whole, the paper fully investigated and discussed the creation of postcards from 2013 to 2014, and could be divided into two categories: native cultural studies and cross-cultural studies. Putting travel into action, the artistic creation re-surveyed Pingtung County from a traveler’s views, by use of the medium of water color and postcards as visual form, recorded scenes from the everyday lives of local people, explored diverse ethno-culture, pondered the relation between humanity and environment in the south of Taiwan, and showed the intersection of traveling and the arts. Postcards from the South of Taiwan was expected to exhibit a collection of unique features in the south of Taiwan so as to attract more people to visit Pingtung.
