Among 16 different unique languages and cultures of aboriginal ethnicities in Taiwan, the Paiwan ethnicity, living in the southernmost region of the Central Mountain range, are well-known for their artistic masterpieces, especially in clothing embroidery, sculpture and crafts. In traditional culture, glass beads play essential roles as Paiwan social class system of aristocratic family heirloom objects, and they are also important items in marriage, sworn statements, festivals and other cultural ceremonies. Among the Paiwan ancient beads pendant, each of the glass beads has each own name, color, pattern, meaning and myth; furthermore, it is easy to figure out a glimpse of the Paiwan magnificent cultural connotation in a piece of string of glass beads. After fieldwork and data collection for over several years, some stories among those many glass beads are more complete than others, but some just reveal simple meaning. This creation will analyze and explore the myth patterns of ancient glass beads preserved by Pakedavai Clan in Sandimen Township. The research presents author’s personal understanding of the implications in stories of glass beads. Diverse artistic painting styles of performance and image practice have shown the expression inherent beauty and emotion on Paiwan glass beads in order to make the beautiful glass-bead culture better known on earth. In terms of artistic expression form, this creative masterpiece has made good use of the oil painting to express glorious cultural connotation, and the spirit of constructivism on the modern art as well as postmodernism in pop art style has been taken to present the connotation. From the iconography of metaphors, each of the Paiwan glass beads is to explore the implications of glass beads, aesthetic elements, and the involved fairy tales. By the creation of the painting on the glass beads, it might indicate the Paiwan people’s touching narrative affair. The images of the glass beads also convey the myth of the invisible meaning of the exquisite Paiwan culture and art. In this creation research, the author has cultivated a series of "Seeing a Curved Rainbow on the Neck" through field work and personal experiences in order to explore precisely the aboriginal cultural features as well as to form the style of creativity.
