They are bonded closely with various aspects of Taiwan society, so their living quality is also worth highlighting. As a narrow island with about 100,000 population, Penghu County has 896 Southeast Asian spouses among its 37,917 households. In another word, there is 1 spouse from Southeast Asia among every 43 households. It means Southeast Asian spouses have close relation with the local life in Penghu. The study discussed the adaptability of Southeast Asian spouses to the local life in Penghu in terms of “Intimacy” that is the deepest and closest relation among people. Thinking, emotional and physical interactions and mutual concerns make our life bonded closely and the close relation also brings great influence on each other. Intimacy includes relationships of parentage, marriage, family, friend and lover. From that perspective, the study discussed whether Southeast Asian spouses can form close relationship with their spouses, children, other family members and social life besides family, in order to help them get involved into local life smoothly and adaptively. By means of interview in qualitative research, the study accumulated rich data, based on which open coding, axial coding and selective coding were conducted by Grounded Theory Approach, to get the relative concepts and categories and explain the correlations of the concepts and the connotation of the core concepts. The findings are as follows. 1. to find the situations of Southeast Asian spouses living in Penghu; 2. to find how the Southeast Asian spouses form intimate relationship with family members; 3. to find how the Southeast Asian spouses form intimate relationship with people out of family; 4. to provide suggestions to improve the adaptability of Southeast Asian spouses.
