Three hundred and fourteen questionnaires were administered to the religious volunteers working in Chan Chi Shan, Hsien Fo Temple in Nantou County. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson correlation. Results showed that the participants’ knowledge of hospice care was influenced by their education level, career, illness experience, availability of hospice care information, and witnessing their relatives’ and friends’ illness experience. The results also showed that the participants’ attitude toward hospice care was influenced by their gender, career, religious beliefs, illness experience, life-death education, and hospice care education. Moreover, their knowledge of hospice care seemed to affect their attitude toward hospice care. The results suggest that helping middle-aged and elderly people better understand hospice care would affect their attitude and recognition toward hospice care.
