The study is based on qualitative research method and using in-depth interviews. The main findings of the study are as follows: (1) The learning motivations of elders in adult’s literacy class are “the real needs in life”, “spiritual communication” and “extension of interpersonal networks”. A. The abilities of life adaptation were making progress, including language, literacy and communication. B. It is less generation gap of children or grandchildren by promoting the ability language. C. Making a lot of friends could be extended interpersonal relationship and having self-confidence. (2) The learning characteristics of the elders in adult’s literacy class are “ways of learning” and “expectation of teachers” A. Learning way of the elders is didactic instruction approach and reading by themselves. B. The expectations to their teacher are “understanding adult’s physical/psychological”, “speaking Taiwanese and Mandarin fluently” and “illustrating” and so on.
