Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 台灣歷史文化及語言研究所 === 103 === This thesis aims to illustrate the function and meaning of Chinese dao in a temporally prepositional way. We firstly define the grammatical use of dao. Unlike most opinions considering dao as a complement form (劉月華etc. 1996, 呂淑湘 2005, 王錦慧 2013, 周明偉 2012), we here start from historically linguistic point of view, adopting that dao undergoes a grammaticalized period, which transferring a verb into proposition (馬貝加 2002, 張赬 2002, 史冬青 2009).
Collecting linguistic date from the Scripta Sinica dateabase comes the next. We make analyses diachronically, including Archaic Chinese, Middle Chinese and Modern Chinese. According to the gathered data, we generalize variant sentencial types of dao + TIME; meanwhile, we have a discussion about how this dao presents its temporal meaning. Moreover, we make a comparative analysis of those sentencial variants of dao + TIME, in order to portraying the whole picture of the temporal dao, and proving that the language system of Middle Chinese is relatively changeable.
Finally, we present the temporal function of dao throughout the interaction of dao + TIME and different verb types. We assume that dao + TIME can bring verbs separate time meanings via its different positions. We also compare Taiwan Chinese and Old Chinese in the meaning gap between different verb types and positions. In this way, we are almost sure that the language system of Middle Chinese is actually an active stage from Archaic Chinese into Modern Chinese.
