SUMMARY
The purpose of this study was to understand the correlation and discrepancy for the players with different backgrounds from the Kaohsiung City Junior High School Division II Basketball League, who perceived coach paternalistic leadership behaviors and team cohesion. This study drew on a quantitative approach, which was based on questionnaire survey. Questionnaires were mainly administered to the players who played in the preliminary stage of 2013 Kaohsiung City Junior High School Division II Basketball League. A total of 328 questionnaires were completed by players from 21 teams including men and women’s varsity teams. The "Kaohsiung basketball players in division II basketball teams coaches perception paternalistic leadership and team cohesion scale" as a research tool, and effective information would be obtained, descriptive statistics, independent sample t test, one-way analysis of variance and Pearson product-moment correlation statistical analysis, the results were as follows: First, Kaohsiung Division II basketball teams coach varsity players perceived paternalistic leadership behavior score in order, was "virtuous leadership", "benevolent leadership," "authoritarian leadership." Second, Kaohsiung Division II basketball teams cohesion varsity players score in order, was "the team to adapt", "teamwork", "interpersonal harmony." Third, different background variables of Kaohsiung Division II varsity basketball players perceived differences in leadership style paternalistic coach follows :( a) Kaohsiung Division II basketball teams varsity male athletes of the "authoritarian leader" significantly felt higher than female athletes. (b) Kaohsiung Division II basketball teams in the perception of the school authoritarian leadership, the starting lineup significantly higher than non-starting lineup. (c) the number of days of training in the perception of the players "paternalistic leadership "and" authoritarian leader " was the stronger. Fourth, different background variables of Kaohsiung Division II varsity basketball player teams cohesion had following differences :( a) Different gender in athletes' interpersonal harmony ". (b) The starting lineup in team cohesion of the various facets were significant differences compared to non- starting lineup. (c) Higher rank team had significant difference team cohesion than the lower rank team. Fifth, the coach paternalistic leadership and team cohesion were positively correlated.
