This study also seeks to understand whether these Vietnamese mothers value their children’s learning and their satisfaction of such after-school service. This study attempts to provide suggestions for the adjustment of the after-school education to meet the foreign mothers’ needs. This qualitative research targeted the mothers from Vietnam with children who lived in Kaohsiung. These six Vietnamese mothers and the six children were interviewed. Of the six children, three participated in the after-school class while the other three did not participate in any after-school class. This study, firstly, found that, the number of children whose mothers were Vietnamese had grown year by year from 2004 to 2013. Due to great differences of words/sentence structures between Chinese and Vietnamese and without adequate assistance of tutoring in Taiwan, whether the Vietnamese mothers participated in the after-school class was the concern of this study. Secondly, the children from a remote area in Kaohsiung were selected as the participants of this study and were interviewed based on the official evaluating criteria of after-school classes. The in-depth interviews and the analysis of data helped understand the Vietnamese mothers’ degree of satisfaction regarding the environment, quality, and sense of security provided by the after-school class. The thorough analysis of the data showed that the Vietnamese mothers were able to make decision on their own. They also indicated rather solid satisfaction and consistency of hardware, software, service quality, and sense of security offered by the after-school class. Furthermore, the survey results demonstrated that the Vietnamese mothers all had high expectation of their children’s education and academic performances. They were also willing to know about their children’s learning and engaged in related activities. Through the interviews, the Vietnamese mothers exhibited a good understanding of the after-school class. The Bureau of Education in Kaohsiung provides the underprivileged elementary school students, who are raised by a single parent, from a low income household, and/or the children of aborigines, with an subsidy of $3,000 NT dollars a month. This study therefore suggests that the children with a foreign mother who has lower income should also be given the subsidy in order for them to take after-school classes. Consequently, the children can have nice care after school and adequate learning resources so as to improve their learning outcome and maintain the justice of education. 譚大純 2015 學位論文 ; thesis 77 zh-TW
