Yuejin Harbor is a prime example that possesses rich historic culture showcased through projects such as “The reproduction of Yuejin Harbor.” The project helped Yuejin obtain the honor of being the most living-friendly city. The establishment of community museums with beautiful natural surroundings, the display of culture, and the annual Yuejin Lantern Festival offer people a new prospect on how multicultural Yuejin has been. Moreover, the effort brings out the once hidden history to people’s attention again, and creates limitless business opportunities for locals. All of the above has brought a new era to Yuejin, making the harbor an increasingly popular tourist attraction. This paper discusses the revival of local culture through the combination of digital and communication technologies such as the Google Earth platform to bring cultural integration.
The paper discusses the cultural highlights of Yuejin in three areas. The first is the value of Yuejin promoting its residents to live and treat the harbor as a “livable, healthy, and LOHAS-styled harbor” through the discussion of “livable, healthy, happy travel”. The second focus is on Yuejin’s diversity in religion through the discussion of “multi-religions and blessed locals.” Finally, the research concentrates on the distinct features and the local bond in Yuejin Harbor through the discussion of “finding cultural customs of the harbor.” After the reviewing the cultural highlights of Yuejin, the paper showcases how the combination of digital and communication technologies have allowed the to bring forth cultural integration. With the Google Earth Internet platform, a three-dimensional navigation page for the “Yuejin Lantern Festival” was created and helped promote the four main themes of the 2014 Yuejin Lantern Festival: “sustainability in reducing carbon emission and environmental protection in Yuejin”, “the continuity of rich prosperity in Yuejin”, “ the beauty and imagery of Yuejin” and “the sentiment in local culture.” Along with the digital media, the banks presented an excellent tour guiding system with contents including the program of Yuejin Lantern Festival, scenic spots, commemoration and intensive promotion of the rich historic cultural assets and traditional customs. The combination of innovative multimedia techniques and communication unveiled the beauty of Yuejin Harbor creatively to reach the goal of passing traditional ideas for the generations to come, and advertising the essence of the harbor and the continuity of future development.
