A lot of theories and treatments for dysmenorrhea have been discovered by ancient Chinese medical experiences. There are various causesmight cause women to have dysmenorrhea; one of the main causes is unregularly eating behavior. It is important to eat regularly for our health status and traditional medical science has noticed that dietarytreatments are effective. Dysmenorrhea happens monthly. To avoid having dysmenorrhea, controlling causing constitutions, feelings and emotions by dietary treatment is one of effective solutions.
Aim: Provides a simple, practical and not side-effects of natural therapies by dietary modification to eliminate or reduce the sense of discomfort caused due to dysmenorrhea.
Methods: Based on “Traditional Medical Literatures” database, we have researched literatures about dysmenorrhea and dietary treatments,and also have known what causes dysmenorrhea and its dietary treatments from ancient medical books. In addition, we also did research that based on recent Chinese periodicals and books to know more information about dysmenorrhea and dietary treatments, offer determinations of different dysmenorrhea types and effective dietary treatments.
Results:The treatments for dysmenorrhea from contemporary Chinese medication is still followed by traditional ones, emphasizing the importance of constitution, attributes of food to comfort dysmenorrhea. The thesis clarifies the statements and related information; five types of dysmenorrhea are: qi stagnation, blood stasis, cool stagnation (amenorrhea with cold-damp stagnation and excessive yin causing interior cold), downward flow of damp-heat, dysmenorrhea due to deficiency of qi and blood, and liver and kidney deficiency.
Conclusions:The main goal of dietary treatment is to remove blood stasis and coordinate qi and blood by conducting qi, promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, dispel coldness, clear heat or invigorate qi and enrich the blood. Notice eating behaviors in daily life could avoid having dysmenorrhea.
