This research conducts a case study method. With interviews, observations, and surveys, this study intends to investigate the origin, the development process, the organizing, the training, and the solutions when suffering difficulties of Jong Jen Elementary Chinese Orchestra. Then the research explores the educational function and meaning of Jong Jen Elementary Chinese Orchestra. Finally, the research investigates the driving factors of sustainable management of Jong Jen Elementary Chinese Orchestra. The results of this research are as follows:
1. The development process of Jong Jen Elementary Chinese Orchestra: Throughout the 30-year history of Jong Jen Elementary Chinese Orchestra, the development process of Jong Jen Elementary Chinese Orchestra has four periods: the starting period, setting the stage, the steady progression, looking into the future. Growing something out of nothing, the administrative organization and the instructing team are getting more completely. It's an eyewitness of Chinese Orchestra history in local district.
2. The organizing and training of Jong Jen Elementary Chinese Orchestra: From the beginning till now, the organizing, training and teaching all have influences on the assistance of finance, the support of parents, the training of teaching, the teaching context, the way of enrolling new students, the difficulties for management, the solutions, the teaching philosophy, the rating system, the organization structure, the music, and the way of solving problems of every period.
3. The educational function of Jong Jen Elementary Chinese Orchestra: The instructing team has positive influences on improving playing skills. Besides, it also benefits children’s communication, attitudes, habits, popularity, learning interest, confidence, self-expression, relationship with parents, and the emotion regulation. For parents, with up to 90% of parents start to know the instrument, the form and the style of performing, and the musical composition. They begin to admire Chinese Orchestra because of their kids are in the orchestra. For teachers, it benefits their career and students. For schools, it has positive influences on children’s overall artistic quality education.
4. The driving factors of sustainable management of Jong Jen Elementary Chinese Orchestra: The instructing team is well organized owing to the dedicated administrative organization in each period. When suffering the difficulties of management, they can be solved by communicating and negotiating. Therefore, parents and students would like to provide assistance because of trusting the administrative organization and instructing team. All of these conditions make the orchestra thrive in the school that never ends.
According to the result of this study, the research provides some suggestions for schools, students, composers, and further studies in the future.
