Summary:碩士 === 國立東華大學 === 觀光暨休閒遊憩學系 === 103 === Religious belief is much more important for the elderly. It not only can provide the elderly with spiritual comforts but also assist them in adjusting to their lives and gaining greater social support. Most elderly people in Taiwan have religious beliefs and their faith is mainly folk beliefs mixed with Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. Temples are regarded as a center of folk religious activities. Through a wide range of worship behavior, a temple carries out many ritualistic and non-ritualistic ceremonies. Participating in folk religious activities is one of leisure activities for the elderly in Taiwan. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between leisure attitudes, involvement and subjective well-being of the elderly participating in folk religious activities. The study employed the face-to-face interview survey to collect data from people over 65 years old participating in religious activities of Ciyou Temple. A total of 170 copies of questionnaire were collected. The result has shown that most elderly involved in religious activities are Taoists, females and those with primary school graduate. Most of them participated folk religious activities for over 20 years, once or twice a month and one hour stay in the temple for each time. Secondly, female partipants have greater leisure attitudes, involvement and subjective well-being than males. Those who joined volunteering service also have greater leisure attitudes, involvement and subjective well-being than those who did not volunteer. There is a statistical difference on leisure attitudes, involvement and subjective well-being among the elderly with different frequency of participation and length of stay. Lastly, there is a relationship between people’s leisure attitudes, involvement on folk religious activities and their subjective well-being. Elderly’s leisure attitudes do promote their involvement on folk religious activities. The higher the leisure attitudes and involvement of the elderly participating in folk religious activities the higher their life satisfaction and positive affect, but also the lower their negative affect.
