Narrative Research On New Immigrant Family with Disabilities Fatherhood's Roles

碩士 === 國立東華大學 === 特殊教育學系 === 103 === This study aimed to explore new immigrant families with disabilities paternal role and comment on new immigrant families , the father is handicapped , then both parents will also face what parenting difficulties and needs . The researchers conducted in-depth interviews for the aforementioned study . Research tools are self-designed "new immigrant families with disabilities fatherhood role " interview outline to collect data , and the resulting data were integrated . The results were as follows: First, the role of fatherhood before and after medical history , and the impact on parenting experience. ( A ) before paternal roles : ( 1 ) Before the age of sixteen vision is very good ; ( 2 ) Suffering from retinitis pigmentosa at seventeen ; ( 3 ) Vision has been nearly blind at thirty-nine; ( 4 ) Desperate for eye diseases ; ( 5 ) Influence of parenting experience：Particularly concerned about the future wife’s visual acuity and attention to genetic health conditions . (B) After paternal roles : ( 1 ) Ready to get married before the uneasy feeling ; ( 2 ) Concerns about their daughter’s visual acuity after its birth ; ( 3 ) Vision care of their daughter during school ; ( 4 ) Himself suffering from all kinds of pain and illness ; ( 5 ) Influence of parenting experience：For the child to make some recommendations for medical treatment. Second, the role of fatherhood befor and after school history, and the impact on parenting experience. ( A ) Before paternal roles : ( 1 ) Adapted well to high school moment; (2 )Eye lesions and spectacle correction in the eleventh grade; ( 3 ) Survivor opportunity is to enter Institute for the Blind; ( 4 ) Influence of parenting experience：to provide maximum resources to children . (B ) After paternal roles : ( 1 )Into the community and learn ways of the world; ( 2 )Agreeing with his wife’s futher studies philosophy ; ( 3 ) To get information from friends and family ; ( 4 ) Influence of parenting experience：Wish their child to grow up safely and learn happily. Third, the role of fatherhood before and after home care , and the impact on parenting experience. (A )Before paternal roles : ( 1 ) Happy life before the eye illness; ( 2 ) To obtain disability benefits after the eye illness ; ( 3 )Buy a house ready to get married ; ( 4 ) Influence of parenting experience：Hope born newborn baby . (B) After paternal roles : ( 1 )Start a new life ; ( 2 ) Multi- function home ; ( 3 ) Feeling uneasy when spouses back her country; ( 4 ) Influence of parenting experience：Daughter is a source of happiness . Fourth, the role of fatherhood before and after employment life , and the impact on parenting experience. (A ) Before paternal roles : ( 1 )Starting of employment life ; ( 2 ) Displaced workers career ; ( 3 )From early embryonic dismal progress to getting better stability massage career; ( 4 ) Influence of parenting experience：Determined earlier. (B) After paternal roles : ( 1 )To help and guide people with the same situation ; ( 2 ) Stable employment in the latter part ; ( 3 ) Ministry of Interior boost employment subsidies ; ( 4 ) Influence of parenting experience：The important of self- help . Fifth, the new immigrant family handicapped father, then both parents of parenting dilemma. (1) Mother can not use incomprehensible abstract statements and lack of advanced computer word processing capability; (2) The parents’ work can not be sustained; (3) Parents were not good in interpersonal interactions in the beginning; (4) Parents are unable to obtain related rights, welfare message; (5) Mother almost do the work of the whole family and exhausted. Sixth, the new immigrant family handicapped father, then both parents of parenting needs. (1) Mother need to learn advanced chinese courses and advanced computer word processing courses; (2) Provide mother multiple vocational training employment opportunities and counseling; (3) Parents continue to maintain and expand good interpersonal networks;(4)The government can take the initiative telephone interview or send relevant interests, welfare informations; (5) Provide child-care service for the mother. Based on the findings and conclusions, the researcher provides suggestion for the government agencies, the new female residents, the relatives of new immigrant family’s disabled father, general elementary school teachers ,and future research directions.
