Summary: | 碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 教育學系研究所 === 103 === This study presents a story of an elementary female teacher who grew up in a poor family but never gave up her dream in education. The story illustrates how this teacher strived to become one of the 100 Ordinary Heroes/Heroines in Taiwan because of her passion for education and contributions made to the educational filed.
The teacher, also the researcher, recalled and reflected on her own experience by means of the narrative method and found her own teacher creed including (1) constant pursuit of progress and innovation; (2) putting students in the center of learning; (3) identifying with the role of the teacher; (4) believing in children possessing multiple intelligences; (5) believing in changing problematic students with education and love; (6) believing in the cooperation among family, school, and society to make education better. In addition, to become an outstanding teacher, one has to possess the following eight characteristics: to have enthusiastic and positive attitude; to increase new professional knowledge; to possess the ability to design curriculum; to have the ability to design and utilize multiple assessments; to possess the ability of classroom management; to develop good parent-teacher-student relationship and to have good interpersonal communication; to have professional knowledge in counseling and to have enthusiasm along with devotion to education. The above teacher creed and characteristics of outstanding teachers may provide some inspiration to those young teachers who intend to devote themselves to education.
Finally, the teacher in this study also suggests that the teacher training program should reinforce students’ abilities in blackboard writing, storytelling, and teaching activity designing. Such abilities along with the above teacher creed and characteristics will help one become an outstanding teacher.
