The methodology was based on questionnaire survey, and a self-developed questionnaire “Survey on the views of teachers in Chiayi elementary schools towards the Chinese language ability of forth-grade students” was used. The respondents of the study included all teachers of third to sixth grade in Chiayi elementary schools. A total of 373 questionnaires were distributed, 366 ones were returned, and 357 valid responses were collected, resulting a valid response rate of 97.5%. The data were analyzed by statistical methods of applying computer software SPSS 21.0, including factor loadings, reliability test, descriptive analysis, t-test and one-way ANOVA. Based on the analysis of the data, the following findings and results were found: 1、elementary school teachers in Chiayi city gave approval for the importance of fourth-grade students’ Chinese language ability,and the most of the teachers gave approval for the level on Chinese language ability of fourth-grade students. 2、There were different views towards the importance of fourth-grade students’ Chineselanguage ability among teachers’ backgrounds, including the differences of service years, education and teaching grade. 3、There were different judgment towards the level on Chinese language ability of fourth-grade students among teachers’ backgroud, including the differences of gender, education and ever been taught fourth-grade students or not. 4、There were significantly positive correlations among the views of teachers towards the importance of fourth-grade students’ Chinese language ability, and their evaluations of the fourth-grade students’ Chinese language ability.
