A Study on Preference of Playground Equipment Among Children in Park

碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 園藝學系研究所 === 103 === Children is the major user in park, but when people design playgrounds in park, they always decide things and detail by their expert angle, or set groups of Playground Equipments in playground directly, although those structures will be more secure, they could not be conformed to the need and preference of most juvenils. Therefore, this study is going to follow the point of the elementary school students in Chayi city to understand their preference and using manner of Playground Equipments in parks. This study experiment with 21 photos which are true condition in parks in Taizhong city and Chayi city to figure out the Playground Equipments preference of child. The targets for questionnaire are the second grade and the fifth grade students in Wen Ya, Lin Sen, Shinan Shin, Lun Tan, Yu Ren, Jhih Hang, Chuei Yang and Sing Chia public elementary school. The questionnaire contains the personal profile, using rate in park, preference and using manner of Playground Equipments. This study sends 430 questionnaires out, and gains 403 effective questionnaires. There are 200 students in the second grade group and 203 students in the fifth grade group, in the other hand, there are 203 boys and 200 girls within the questionnaires. The result of the research reveals that the average which belongs to the preference of Playground Equipments in park is between common and like. Children prefer swing type equipments the most(M=3.99, SD=0.91), the second type which they like is integral equipments(M=3.83, SD=0.85), the preference of rocking horse is the lowest(M=3.06, SD=0.97). In grade aspect, the Playground Equipments preference of second grade students is higher than the fifth grade in every kind of equipments, and so does the Playground Equipments preference of girls. For juvenils, the preference of form, color and material quality significantly influence the preference of the Playground Equipments. If the child has some experience in this Playground Equipment, the preference of this child will be higher than those children without experience. In visiting park rate aspect, the students who visit park three times a week or up to three times prefer water play equipment more than the students who visit park one to two times a month; the students who seldom visit park prefer seesaw type equipments more; the students who visit park one to two times a week prefer rocking horse more than the students who visit park one to two times a month or less. Final, hope for the future, results of this study will be provided to the relevant units as outdoor playground for children’s reference of games provisioning and update, hopes children to have a better outdoor play environments in the future.
