Due to its location advantage, passengers traveling between Taichung and major cities in China, particularly Hong Kong, have been rapidly increasing recently. This gives the potential market for low cost carriers serving between Taichung and Hong Kong. This study examines passenger choice for Taichung-Hong Kong air travel, using a stated choice modeling approach to analyze: (1) passengers’ choice between traditional full service carriers and two low cost carriers; and (2) passengers’ willingness to pay for the low cost carrier service. The results show that fare, flight change restrictions, and destination airports are significant attributes that can influence the passengers’ choices of airline.
