Summary: | 碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 翻譯研究所 === 103 === There is a large of quantity and miscellaneous types of English-Chinese translated cookbooks published in Taiwan. However, the quantity of relevant research on the translation of cookbooks remains moderately limited. In this research, an attempt has been made to delve into the coping translation strategies applied into one of the best selling cookbook in Taiwan named Nigellissima: Instant Italian Inspiration within the framework of the functionalist approach proposed by Christiane Nord. First of all, source text (ST) analysis and target text (TT) analysis was adopted with extra- and intra-textual factors model in order to decide on functional priorities of translation strategies before the translation task. Next, the research examined the application of translation strategies used by the translator tackling the translation problems in the cookbook. After that, the relationship between the translation strategies of the cookbook and Nord’s theory was reviewed in the thesis.
The results revealed that Nord’s model could serve as a guiding principle in the initiation phase of translation task. It is helpful for translators to specify the purposes, and textual functions of ST and TT to fulfill the needs of target readers by adjusting renditions according to the results of analysis. Besides, convention-related problems and linguistic problems are major translation problems translator might encounter in cookbook translation. To solve these problems, translators are suggested to adjust translation strategies flexibly according to the functions of texts. Most importantly, translation accuracy should be highly emphasized in order to help target readers to make delicious exotic cuisines by a translated cookbook.
