A number of studies show that effective communication can increase team cohesion and team performance as well as enhance long-term organizational development. A starting point of “Communication” is “Self-disclosure” , and successful communication depends on "self-disclosure", if a person open his/her heart to share his/her feelings, knowledge, thoughts and experiences. However, in what situations would have higher self-disclosure intentions? And how does the effects of self-disclosure on team cohesion and performance? The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the important factors that may influence self-disclosure in workplace, from the whole environment to the individual level includes organizational culture, leadership style, trust and personality trait as well as the effect of self-disclosure on team cohesion and performance.
Questionnaires were used for data collection, with convenience sampling and aimed to selected 2100 excellent performance organization by Common Wealth magazine in the year of 2014. A total of 202 effective questionnaires were collected and effective response rate was 19.24% and by using SPSS as data analysis to examine hypothesis.
Findings indicate that organizational culture, leadership style, trust and personality trait have a portion significant effect on self-disclosure and self-disclosure has a portion positive significant effect on team cohesion and performance. To provide the management practice and improvement suggestions to managers and leaders to enhance organization run more smoothly create consensus and achieve organizational goals as well as provide some illumination on the world of academia.
