In order to provide an overall picture of overseas mergers and acquisitions by Taiwan banks, this study analyzes the first overseas acquisition of an Asia regional T bank by a Taiwan C bank. The results of this case study show that : (1) political issues are critical in international mergers and acquisitions; (2) both valuation of assets and liabilities and the prudential supervision of the target bank’s country are important, and (3) legal compliance for international acquisitions, and its impact on the local competition of target bank must be considered.
