For the in-depth understanding, the content analysis and experimental design is adopted. At first, the research concludes features of the fairy tale film by content analysis, and further investigates the variation trend. The results indicate that recent fairy tale films trend towards keeping structural features of common fairy tales and highlighting the axis of single fairy tale. Under the structure, the fairy tale films are adapted by different story details, role shaping and different ways of presenting. Besides, more dark elements have been infused into recent fairy tale films, which shows the importance of adult audience market. Study two’s experiment focuses on audience’s psychological mechanism when watching a fairy tale film. From the view of schema incongruity, this study discuss whether adaptation degree and emotional valence of fairy tale films would affect audience’s viewing enjoyment, and further explore other factors that may influence the schema incongruity processing. The result shows that the combination of high degree of adaptation and positive emotion valence clues in fairy tale film will induce the best enjoyment for audience. When an audience is equipped with strong fairy tale schema, watching fairy tale film with high degree of adaptation will perceive higher surprise, and the surprise is an essential element for adaptation to affect audience’s enjoyment.
