In ZigBee wireless communication systems, when a system is collecting data, all data will pass through the coordinator which serves as a gateway to the database. Due to the nature of wireless communication, all nodes sending data to the coordinator will compete with each other to gain access to the wireless channel. When lots of data are waiting in a queue, the limited buffer size may easily cause packet loss, and the overall performance will decrease. Some previous work was proposed to use multiple gateways to disperse traffic flows. Although it can solve the bottleneck problem, sometimes the actual performance is still bad due to the imbalanced gateways which receive data. In my thesis, a modified routing method was proposed to solve the imbalanced problem, and reached balanced state to improve transmission efficiency. A ZigBee network management system was also developed, which has a graphical interface for users to observe current ZigBee topology easily.
