博士 === 國立成功大學 === 政治經濟研究所 === 103 === The baby bust and population aging are two important social phenomena in Taiwan that induce the change of population characteristics. In this paper, I will focus on the relationship between crime rates and population characteristics. When we experience the baby bust and population aging, what effect will it have on us? This paper captures 260 observations from Taiwan’s countries during 1998 to 2010, and constructs the regression model test causal relationship between population natural increase, social increase, age structure, education degree, marital status and crime rates. The results of this paper show that natural population increase will raise the crime rate. This paper also found that there are the positive relationship between proportion of young adults, above senior middle school, divorce population and crime rates. In addition, the proportion of married population increase will decrease crime rates.
