SUMMARY
This research takes traditional bamboo craft as the research subjects, and experimental
implementation as the research method. Constructing the relationship of characters of
material, rule of weaving, fabric of pattern, and form of space. Testing its potential to
create spaces by repetitious examining.
There are three parts of this research,
Firstly, research background
Secondly, experiential research
Thirdly, practical design
Examining the probability of space creating by repetitious testing material and
weaving through three stages. Mirroring material original pattern by experimental and
knowledge to represents its “immateriality“, and its “surface layer spirited” which
is created by interaction of virtual and actual.

INTRODUCTION
This research takes traditional bamboo craft as the research subjects, and experimental
implementation as the research method. Constructing the relationship of characters of material,
rule of weaving, fabric of pattern, and form of space. Testing its potential to create spaces by
repetitious examining.
There are three parts of this research,
Firstly, research background
Organising reference data to set up bamboo features, weaving rules, pattern fabric and
related knowledge of Taiwan bamboo weaving to be the reference of following experience.
Secondly, experiential research
Material –From fundamental material handle and experience process to understand and
discover feature and limitation of material.
Weaving – On the experience period, assisting by the craftsman, Mr. Jin-Duan Ciou to examine
bamboo c by testing material feature and fundamental weaving rule.
Thirdly, practical design.
Detecting the feasibility of material and weaving bamboo crafts on three practical stages,
recording the limitation and problems of scale changing, and examine the design again and
again.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
In the initial research stage, it collects and organizes bamboo weaving information, practical
data of weaving rules and implements, recording questions and finding that are created on the
practical process to doing bamboo crafts. On the middle research stage, it organises sevenissues to interview the craftsman, Ms. Jin-Duan Ciou. Learning how to handle bamboo and use
equipment by the craftsman’s guide and assistance. On the final stage of research, it
repetitious processes six experimental researches, as a cycle, to set up issues, practical
implementation, recording problems, and discussion of conclusion.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
These three research stages examine the feasibility of material and weaving, record the
limitation and problems of scale changing, and examine the design again and again.
Attempting to response to finding of previous research that transformation from experimental
implement operation to spatial form, except the limitation of material, the discussion of
structure also become an important issues on human scale.

Design three, CUBE
CONCLUSION
Mirroring material original pattern by experimental and knowledge to represents its
“immateriality“, and its “surface layer spirited” which is created by interaction of virtual and
actual. The weaving rule is language pattern, and material is word. Every material contains its
unique form; Form is produced by material, and also is embodied by material. In the beginning
of the dissertation, it takes bamboo weaving as the research issue, although, it also focally
discusses on bamboo, it discovers interesting finding from different experience. Furthermore,
future research can practice the research result in different material and try new operation technique.
