Summary: | 博士 === 國立中興大學 === 應用經濟學系所 === 103 === This dissertation focuses on the differences between Thai household expenditure in
urban and rural areas in relation to Thailand’s national agenda, namely, its student loans
scheme, reading policy and sports policy. This study aims to explore variables that
determine the spending behavior of Thai households to better design public policies that
are more suitable to Thai society. The survey data are obtained from the Household
Socio-Economic Survey for 2009 and the Reading Survey in Thailand, 2008 conducted
by the National Statistical Office of Thailand (NSO). The study applies analysis of
variance (ANOVA), ordinary least squares (OLS) regression techniques, and the Tobit
model to the data. The results of these tests provide some important implications for the
challenges faced by the Thai government as it seeks to improve the efficiency and
effectiveness of its policies and national agenda schemes and thereby reduce the
households’ expenses and be fairer to its citizens in rural and urban areas.
