For the purpose of rural landscape improvement, The Soil and Water Conservation Bureau of Taiwan promoted the project of landscape aesthetics improvement and dilapidated space prettification based on the rural regeneration regulations. Aim to improve the rural environment prettification, retained and reproducing the local rural landscape features, the program made a lot of successful outcomes in rural communities landscape, and further, generated psychological benefits by partnership and cooperation between official, scholars and the community. However, many communities is eager to gain the resource without proper planning and design. That also cause a problem that rural landscape became disorderly again. This study first applied the concepts of “Landscape forming factors” from the literature review and interviews with experts, followed by using the Analytical Hierarchy Process to develop the weighting of the “Evaluative System of Dilapidated Space in Rural Villages(ESDSRV)” The assessment criteria system included 6 criteria, including “features of the site”, “design thinking”, “material selection”, “construction performance”, “use of funds”, “maintenance and management”and 17 sub-criteria. These criteria were applied to the ESDSRV to analyze community improved landscape space for Gongming, Meizih and Shangan. The result showed that the score of first place in Gongming area was 86.6, implying that the landscape forming factors level was “Moderate” class, and the other one was 93.8, implying that the landscape forming factors level was “Fine” class. The score of first place in Meizih first one area was 72.8, implying that the landscape forming factors level was “Inferior” class, and the other one was 79.8, implying that the landscape forming factors level was “Inferior” class. The score of first place in Shangan first one area was 98, implying that the landscape forming factors level was “Fine” class, and the other one was 87, implying that the landscape forming factors level was “Moderate” class. The ESDSRV can assist the evaluators in understanding the spatial characteristics of rural improved space and their vulnerabilities. By comparing these criteria, the system can also be the important references for central and local governments to enhance rural space landscape management tasks in the future.
