After 2008, the new-elected government welcomed Chinese tourists to Taiwan and went backpacking. As a result, the hotel industry set off a wave of the renovation in the Central District of Taichung City. Due to previous urban renewal projects are/were often through government intervention to implement. But this time, in the Central District of Taichung City, the private sector industries initiate the renewal process because of the need of market, so that this study hopes to observe how the market forces involved in urban renewal can improve the spacial reconstruction and bring up the old downtown. So, the hotel industry developed a series renewal works because of the new emerging demand of the market. This study explores this area to see whether there are enough incentives to induce urban renewal in the market of the Central District of Taichung City; what the problems the urban renewal project which private sector industries develop face; and what are its complete set of measures needed to develop. Therefore, this study proposes two hypothesis: the first is that the renovation of the hotel building can foster the industries'' development in the Central District of Taichung City; the second is that the urban renewal project that the private sector industries initiating does not need government intervention to implement. So this study is through data collection, and questionnaires on accommodation guest to understand their accommodation motivation and their consumption in this area. Also, the researcher employs the semi-structured interviews on hostel industries to analysis the relationship between the renovation of the hotel industry and urban development in the Central District of Taichung City. The results shows that the renovation of the hotel building created the change of urban landscape in the Central District of Taichung City. Second, those hotel industry thinking of the major work for urban renewal in the Central District of Taichung City should direct to strengthen the preservation and maintenance of cultural assets. Third, the consumer activity at the old down town also change the landscape in the Central District of Taichung City; and the government involvement of urban renewal in the Central District of Taichung City should be replaced by the private sector as the major leader.
