Many porphyrin are naturally occurring, the best-known porphyrins are heme and chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is an extremely important biomolecule, which has high molar extinction coefficient can allow plants to absorb energy from light. In this thesis, we take porphyrin as core of synthesis, and separate two parts to discuss. One is extending the π conjugated – using alkyne substitutes and dimer porphyrin to increase the range of absorption spectrum, expect can enhance the ability of efficiency. We also take YD2-o-C8, which was published in science with collaboration of M. Grätzel group in 2012, as control group to compare with bis-ethynyl porphyrin (9), (10) and tetra-ethynyl (12). Obviously, the UV-Vis spectrum is more red-shifted, tetra-ethynyl (12) even reach the near IR region, which increase about 100 nm than YD2-o-C8. For commercialize, these compounds have less synthesis steps and make large scale easily, it’s considerably low cost and would generally accepted by the commercialization. The other part, we design new electron donating group based on YD2-o-C8. The new donor has longer carbon alkyl chain to enhance ability of electron donating, and alkyl chain to increase the solubility also avoid electrolyte inject to porphyrin dye.
