After the strike of 921 earthquake, it found that the school buildings in Taiwan are generally vulnerable in resisting seismic force. The suggestion of the addition of shear walls or wing walls to strengthen the building is widely considered. Herein, the effectiveness of the use of wing wall is discussed by designated examples. It concludes that, the implement of the wing walls to the existing building, has to be carefully evaluated to avoid the failure of the otherwise member of structure.
