In Taiwan, society consists of aging population and birth rate is declining. It is important to develop elderly care system which can solves the problems for elderly caring, and to expand automation system in order to reduce the demand for manpower. The development of elderly care system and automation system needs the integration of many key technologies for effective results. This thesis aims at one of
the key technologies, indoor positioning system.
The accuracy of many positioning system have been improved greatly, but after further analysis only the receiver which uses infrared or ultrasonic signals can achieve an accuracy in the level of centimeters. Unfortunately, these two seniors are easily disturbed due to environmental factors. The dual mode positioning system discussed in this article uses the complementarity of infrared and ultrasonic systems to provide an accuracy on the order of a few centimeters and continuous positioning. Can be more robust against the environment of disturbances.
The hardware of dual mode positioning system uses existing modules from vendors for integration, while the kernel of software uses LabVIEW to combine these two positioning systems, and the results are shown on human-machine interface. Through various tests and verifications, the dual mode positioning system demonstrates the requirements in elderly care systems and automation systems.
