Less attention on effect of depression and more focus on treatment rather than consider quality of life among cancer patients that may contribute neglect of depression. Therefore, conducting a study to estimate the prevalence of depression and its determinants among hepatocellular carcinoma cancer patients is crucial. Method: A cross-sectional study was used, with participants recruited from a hospital in Southern Vietnam. Depression measured by Hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS). Chi-square test was used to identify possible factors related to depression. Results: Three hundred and two patients were included in this study. The prevalence of anxiety and depression was reported 9% and 19% respectively. Depression was significantly associated with gender, education, occupation, alcohol use, tobacco use, health insurance, status of receiving education on treatment and thinking to perception of disease. Conclusions: This study provides addition evidence for describing the risk factors of depression within hepatocellular carcinoma cancer patients. Findings indicate an establishment adequate support systems, guideline for dissemination information of cancer treatment.
