Summary: | 碩士 === 美和科技大學 === 健康照護研究所 === 103 === Background. Language is the primary means of communication, dominated development thinking to integrate into society and community. For deaf children, the listening and speaking skills practicing for children is a crucial issue. There have been many research projects on cochlear implant (CI) in the world, but in Vietnam does not have any studies evaluating the listening and speaking skills practicing for deaf children post CI in the family. With such goals, the study was conducted to assess the Role of Caregivers for Deaf Children under 5 years old to Practice Listening–Speaking Skills at home at the first year post Cochlear Implant.
Methods. Using the cross-sectional descriptive method and questionnaire to collect the opinions of the directly caregiver about the process and their practice skills for children. In addition, using the assessment results for language development of children before and after 1 year of practice in listening and speaking skills at home.
Results. According to the results of speech therapist after one year practice, the proportion of children reaching the level of averaged from above is 100%, in which 67.3% is good, pretty good at 20% and 12.7% is average – which compared with before practice 100% children in poor levels. In addition, there are 90.9% caregivers have correct practice skills . There is a positive relationship between education (p = 0.003) and occupation (p = 0.000) of caregivers with correct practice skills. Similarly, there is a relationship between correct practice skills with results achieved (p = 0.030)
Conclusion. The language development of deaf children is the result of a combination of audiologist and speech therapist and caregivers during practicing. Of these caregivers have a very important role in the rehabilitation of children post CI at home through attitude, correct practice skills and understanding of training methods and psychology of deaf children.
