Summary: | 碩士 === 美和科技大學 === 健康照護研究所 === 103 === Background: Unsafe injection practices are widespread in developing countries, harming to the patients and inviting risks to the health care workers. At Cho Ray hospital (CRH), information about safe injection of nurse not determine so the present study was carried out: to determine the level of knowledge, attitudes of nurses on safe injections; the percentage practice of nurses following the steps of the technical process intravenously and to find out the shortcomings often happened.
Methodology: A cross-sectional survey was carried out from 25th March to 25th April 2014. In survey used questionnaires to collected the characteristics and assess knowledge and attitude of nurses. Observers used to observe the nurses implement intravenously to assess behavior of them in safety injections practice by the checklist. The data were analysed by SPSS 18.0
Results: There were 200 nurses (17 male and 183 female) who participated in the study, most of them in age from 31 to 40 years and work experience less than 5 years; 75.5% of them have qualifications is technical secondary techniques; 93.5% of them were received training about safe injections. The number of patients a nurse takes care in 8 hours was 16.59 ± 8.29 and in 16 hours were 31.92 ± 12.01 patients. Assessment K-A-B of nurses about safe injections by group, there were 21% excellent; 24.5% good; 15% middle; 24% not good; 15.5% worse. There were 41% of nurses in the study didn't hands washing before give injections. Age, working experience, and qualification are the most important factor that will affect nurses’ behavior of safe injections skills in clinical services.
Conclusions: Most of nurses have good knowledge, but many nurses have poor attitudes and behavior; the ratio to comply with the intravenous process was very low. A training plan for safety injection practices and the monitoring system are needed. Keywords: Nursing, Needle stick injury, Safety injection, Safe injection practice.
