Basic habits include those pertaining to diet, oral hygiene, and sleep. If children are able to establish good basic habits, these will last a lifetime and allow them to lead healthy lives in the future. When teaching and guiding pre-schoolers, illustrated books can serve as an attractive medium of instruction. The interesting contents allow them to explore through the stories and learn about the world, thereby stimulating their learning motivations. The aim of this creative research is to inculcate good oral hygiene and eating habits through the imperceptible influence of illustrated books, so as to promote the development of good life habits in pre-schoolers. The two main methodologies used are analysis of existing literature and research of creative design. The first method involves the compilation and analysis of related literature on the proper methods of oral care and eating habits, as well as the definitions and developments of children’s illustrated books. The second method uses the findings from the first as reference and basis for creating illustrated books, with cartoons being the main illustration style. The lovely characters and bright colours attract the children’s attention, while the contents relate to their life experiences. Familiar situations such as tooth decays and being picky about food are more likely to invoke emotional resonance. The incorporation of proper oral care methods and importance of nutrition in the illustrated books can increase the effectiveness of guiding children to adopt good life habits.
