This entrepreneurial idea is one of many women''s pathways to being an entrepreneur. This research explores factors that drive women to become an entrepreneur. Some major reasons why more and more women are becoming self-employed are because of freedom and flexibility, personal achievement, desire of control, and work-life balance. However, women entrepreneurship is not only about success, but it sometimes consist of barriers, obstacles, and challenges. The purpose of this study is to examine the relation that exists between the skills possessed by women entrepreneurs and their motivations, and obstacles; especially for women entrepreneurs in small medium enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia. The analysis undertaken shows that three major internal factors (background, personal, and situational) will affect them to start up a business and the number one hurdle many women have to overcome is lack of business capital; lack of experience and skills; and public discrimination.
