Data were collected through questionnaires. In addition to the descriptive analysis, independent sample t test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson product-moment correlation were used to analyze the relationship between teachers’ professional development and their self-efficacy, and their associations with background variables respectively. Through statistical analyses, the relationship between teachers’ professional development and self-efficacy in Changhua County was found to be generally positive with an average result at medium-high level. As for the professional development, their professional spirits and attitudes were ranked highest whereas classroom management was ranked highest in terms of self-efficacy. As for the background variables, respondents who were male, serving administrative work, teaching as English faculty, working in the school with number of classes lower than 12 showed better performance in professional development and self-efficacy in the self-reported evaluations while age, educational background and seniority had no significant effects. Elementary school teachers’ professional development and self-efficacy in Changhua County was found to be highly correlated. Based on the findings, the researcher proposed several pedagogical suggestions to education institutes and argued that teachers’ needs for further learning should receive more attention. It was suggested that the government should consider putting efforts in developing a well-designed system for professional learning. Furthermore, to satisfy the learning needs of teachers and create a collaborative working environment, schools may offer courses or workshops. As for teachers, in order to improve their self-efficacy, being active in participating professional learning and finding ways to make further improvements would be helpful.
