The study targets the children of new migrant from the first grade to the sixth grade of an elementary school in Kaohsiung city. The study is conducted in the qualitative research approach, and is based on the analyses and the interpretations of multiple data sources, including a survey, participant observations, document analysis and semi-structured interviews. Sixteen people were interviewed, including the children of new immigrant, the lead teachers and the children’s parents. The conclusions from the findings in this study include: 1. The academic achievement of children of new immigrant is not backward, even beyond the other children whose mothers are native. The academic achievement of children of new immigrant from the first grade to the sixth grade did not change significantly. 2. Gender and the length of pre-school education show no significant association with academic achievement. 3. Family structure shows no significant association with academic achievement. If other family members can help to educate the children, it is capable of generating a positive influence on their academic achievement performance. 4. Harmonious family atmosphere and democratic parenting style of parents have a positive influence on the performance of academic achievement of their children. 5.The mothers’ nationality has a great impact on the academic achievement of their children. The academic achievement of children whose mothers come from China is better than those come from Southeast Asian countries. Based on the findings and the conclusions, several suggestions are presented as references for elementary school teachers, elementary school education, related educational organizations and future studies. 吳訂宜 2015 學位論文 ; thesis 108 zh-TW
