To facilitate the wide use of residential smoke detectors, fire authorities should be aware of the public’s knowledge of the device and the factors for adopting the device so as to identify the key factors. When promoting and marketing residential fire detectors, fire authorities should develop suitable marketing strategies on the basis of the key factors the public care about. This study conducted literature review and collected data through questionnaires. Subsequently, using the theory of planned behavior (TPB) as a framework, this study verified the model of “the behavioral intention of installing residential smoke detectors among the citizens of Tainan City” through AMOS and SPSS. The results of empirical study showed that attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control significantly influenced behavioral intention in the structure of the behavioral intention of installing residential smoke detectors in Tainan City. The dimension of perceived behavioral control exerted the strongest influence on behavioral intention, followed by subjective norms and attitude. In the dimension of attitude, personal interests exhibited a greater influence than social interests did. In the dimension of subjective norms, main groups had a stronger influence than subgroups did.” In the dimension of perceived behavioral control, convenience exerted a greater influence than one’s own ability did. According to the results, this study suggested that fire authorities organize activities to promote that installing residential smoke detectors can ensure life and property safety, reduce property damage, and reduce the incidence of major fire accidents. By doing so, fire authorities can improve the overall impression of Taiwan, facilitate the development of related industries, and increase the intention of the public to install residential smoke detectors. Furthermore, fire authorities may negotiate with detector providers to offer discounts for bulk order to strengthen citizens’ intention to install residential smoke detectors. In addition, fire authorities can enhance the public recognition, social climate, and thus prevalence of installing residential fire detectors through expert endorsements for and media reports on the benefits of installing such device. 林錦郎 博士 2015 學位論文 ; thesis 92 zh-TW
