According to national policy and cross-strait situation, The President of R.O.C. is promoting "the all-volunteer plan" for national defense policies. Under this system, Ministry of National Defense (MND) is increasing amount of volunteers in proportion to replace "the conscription plan" with " the all-volunteer plan ". More, the government hopes to replace conscription with all-volunteer military. Because the information technology rapidly develops , and types of war has been changed already, it has been focused on destroying war-fighting capability of adversaries invisibly. Therefore, the demand of high-tech manpower is increasing. In addition to recruit high-quality and professional soldiers , it will be the most important issue that how to enhance intention of soldiers to stay in the military. In this manner, MND can reach the goal of promoting "the all-volunteer plan" and organization benefit of national defense, and professional national military to keep the military power and specialized skill endlessly. The purpose of this study is to explore whether volunteer soldiers' intention to stay in the military is influenced by such factors as salary and benefits, professional work characteristics, interpersonal relationships, career planning, and external factors, and to understand critical reasons of their career planning. It will be the important reference data to Army Recruitment and improve grassroots soldiers demand basis. This study mainly takes volunteers' transferring to sergeants of Information and Electronic Warfare Command of central Taiwan as the object to investigate. A total of 120 questionnaires were collected; after 36 invalid questionnaires were discarded, a total of 84 valid questionnaires were obtained. Data consist of perceptions concerning factors which affect the intention to stay in the military and is recorded to empirical analysis. The results of the study are as follows : 1. Salary and benefits had significantly difference for intending to stay in the military. 2. Professional work characteristics had significantly difference for intending to stay in the military. 3. Interpersonal relationships had significantly difference for intending to stay in the military. 4. Career planning and external factors had significantly difference for intending to stay in the military.
