With the flourishing development of the service economy, the impact and importance of emotional labor on service workers have grown with each passing day. In consideration the fact research precipitants of emotional labor are mostly engaged in service work in the private sector, stress and performance issues possibly arise for service workers from the public sector, and more women entering the workplace, it is necessary to explore the impact of emotional labor on stress and performance and further study differences between men and women in the relationship. Public sector employees were adopted as research participants in this study. Convenience sampling was adopted as the survey method for collecting data. A total of 396 questionnaire copies were recovered, of which 306 copies were valid copies. Through regression analysis, the empirical study findings are as follows: surface acting had a significant effect on work stress, gender had a moderating effect on the relationship between deep acting and job performance, and this effect is greater on female than on male.
