Besides, pump & treat method was applied to remediate groundwater contamination with TPH-d, BTEX and total phenols. On-site soil mixing with Fenton reagents combined the principles of Fenton oxidation and soil washing to provide the better contact of oxidants and soil contaminants, which improve the problem of in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) scheme. Fenton reagents were made of 5% H2O2 solution and ferric ions at a molar ratio of 10:1, and the jar tests were carried out at a Fenton reagent/soil mixing ratio of 3:1 in order to examine the full contact of oxidants and soil contaminants. The results of field application showed that on-site soil mixing with Fenton reagents can remove 80% of TPH contaminants from soil. Pump & treat method was applied to capture contaminant plume through pumping wells, and excavation of contaminated soils was also carried out. Finally, the contaminant levels are all below soil and groundwater regulatory standards at the study site. This case study provided the procedures of pollution investigation, remedy planning, remediation operation, and performance evaluation for reference. The advantages, disadvantages and limitation of Fenton reagent application were also presented in order to technically consider future practical application of Fenton reagent.
