Description
Summary:碩士 === 高雄醫學大學 === 公共衛生學系公共衛生學碩士班 === 103 === OBJECTIVE:The excess cellphone usage may have a significant role in raising risk of low self-esteem and high levels of social physique anxiety. First, our objective was to investigate the impact of cellphone usage on social physique anxiety. Second, we examined the influence of low self-esteem on the association between cellphone usage and social physique anxiety. The third aim of this study was to examine the moderating effects of cellphone usage and body mass index on social physique anxiety. METHODS:We evaluated data from 2013 representative adolescents who were multistage sampled from 18 Junior High schools in Taiwan. We cross-sectionally collected demographic, physical, dietary and anthropometric variables. Data were analyzed using polytomous logistic regression models and logistic models adjusted for covariates. RESULTS:As compared with cellphone non-users with high self-esteem, we found that the overweight/obese adolescents had a 7.4 elevated risk of high social physique anxiety. Differences in risk of high social physique anxiety among cellphone non-users of the same BMI might be resulted from low self-esteem. Cellphone non-users with low self-esteem and normal BMI had a 10.0 more risk of high social physique anxiety than cellphone non-users with high self-esteem and normal BMI. The excess cellphone usage was found to interact with BMI in determining higher levels of social physique anxiety. CONCLUSION:The results indicated that positive associations were found between the excess cellphone use and social physique anxiety. The cellphone usage and body mass index were likely to interactively strengthen social physique anxiety among overweight/obese adolescents.
